ENERGY ASSESSMENT

The first step towards a greener home is an energy assessment or energy audit. We evaluate your home from outside as well as inside and check each room’s efficiency and safety. We’ll target your home’s problem areas and develop solutions to reduce its energy consumption.

Making energy improvements such as having proper insulation and weatherization, buying efficient appliances, lighting and heating systems could easily save 20 to 30 percent of your home’s energy bills, and possibly much more.

Some common problems are:

  • Missing insulation, especially in attics
  • Uninsulated crawlspaces
  • Leaky attic access
  • Air leaks, especially at doors and windows
Unfinished, uninsulated basements

Every Greenlane energy assessment is conducted by an energy consultant who is certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) as a Building Analyst and Building Envelope professional.

EXTERIOR
INSPECTION

The exterior inspection of your home includes evaluating the general condition and construction and checks for any safety issues that may exist. Inside, we’ll test your heating and cooling system with a combustion safety and efficiency test. This test checks your hot water efficiency, and whether carbon monoxide and gas leaks are present in your home. We’ll also check your heating and cooling distribution systems for leaks and insulation values.

INTERIOR
INSPECTION

Every Greenlane energy consultant performs a complete interior inspection from your dirt floor crawl-space to the tightest areas of your attic. We’ll go to areas of your home that you may have never seen, but may be the cause of asthma, allergies and cold or hot rooms throughout your home. Greenlane interior inspections evaluate lighting and your existing household appliances to see how we can improve the efficiency of your home with our comprehensive home assessment.

BLOWER
DOOR
TEST

Imagine having a window in your house that never closes. By conducting the blower door test, we measure your home’s air leaks and determine the size of this “window”. We calculate the Building Airflow Standard for the size of your home and occupancy rate, and compare that to what the actual blower door results tell us in Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM).  We can tell you how much energy you are wasting due to excess air-flow, and what our limit is for making your home air tight while maintaining healthy air exchange.

COMBUSTION
SAFETY
TEST

The combustion safety test is an important part of the Greenlane energy audit. Greenlane focuses on three main areas: Gas leakage, Carbon Monoxide spillage into your home and the efficiency of your equipment. Greenlane will test every pipe and every fitting to ensure they are sealed properly. Greenlane will measure the Carbon Monoxide flow from your equipment and ensure that it falls within acceptable levels.

INFRARED
THERMAL
IMAGING

With Infrared thermal-imaging cameras, our energy consultants can graphically display and photograph the insulation levels and cold or hot spots within your walls, ceilings and floors without creating any holes or removing any sheet rock.  You will be amazed when you see a vivid image of where you are missing insulation and what that does for heat loss in the winter or heat gain in the summer.

COMPREHENSIVE
REPORT

After a thorough analysis of your home and energy assessment, we compile the results into a detailed report complete with photographs, thermal images, health and safety issues, and an explanation of energy loss in your home. We also provide you with customized solutions, cost of implementation, and the projected return on your investment. We'll work with you to achieve a healthy and efficient home.
