GOLD OF SUNSHINE - ENVIRONMENTAL

The efficiency of thermal collectors is so high that solar thermal technology cuts consumption of energy sources and CO2 emissions more effectively than any other alternative energy source.

Homes and business differ in the fuels they use to heat water. Some use electricity, some use oil and some use natural gas. In all cases these are fuels that are increasingly expensive and polluting. Overall every year a typical two panel solar thermal system will:

•Prevent 5,000 lbs. of coal from being mined (when electricity is used).
•Prevents 5,000 lbs. of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, the equivalent of planting an acres of trees.
•Keeps sulfur dioxide, nitrous oxide, mercury, and other pollutants from being released into the environment
•Uses foreign energy (for oil and gas systems)

Consider that the electricity we use in our homes is mostly generated in inefficient coal burning plants with energy losses of up to 70%. There are then further transmission losses before that power reaches us.

The majority of petroleum for heating oil is imported, much of it from hostile governments in the Middle East. The vast majority of our natural gas is imported from Canada.

Many people are willing to pay an additional $10,000 over the price of a standard car to buy a Prius or Hybrid vehicle to reduce their auto emissions by half. For much less a solar thermal system will have the same emission savings as taking two cars off the road for the life of the system.

Most of us recycle and refrain from littering because we value the well being of our communities and because it’s the right thing to do.

Now instead of just reducing our impact on the world we can go so far as to almost eliminate it.

Going solar is revolutionary as we face the greatest challenges of our new century: energy technology and climate change.

Solar energy is socially responsible investing at its best in contributing towards a brighter tomorrow.
