RENEWABLE POWER - SOLAR ELECTRIC

Solar electricity is possible through photovoltaic panels. These panels are constructed of silicon which is chemically treated to create a positive-charge layer and a negative-charge layer.When exposed to sunlight, the silicon electrons become energized and move from the positive layer to the negative layer. This flow of electrons is the electricity the panels produce which can be extracted to power our lights and appliances.

The stronger the sunlight and clearer the day the more electricity the panels produce. During the day when your panels produce more energy than you are using, the excess energy will spin your electric meter backwards. This earns you credits from the utility and after dark your home automatically retrieves that credited energy for normal use.

This process is known as net metering and if at the end of the year you’ve produced more electricity than you’ve used, you’ll be the one receiving a check from the power company!
